Three months after its political inauguration at the United Nations in New York, MASSIVEGOOD received the support of the Board of the Millennium Foundation, which met in Geneva, Switzerland on June 7-8th to review the encouraging first results of its flagship project.

“After talking with all the board members, I would like to stress my satisfaction and confidence in our innovative fundraising project for global health,” said Philippe Douste-Blazy, Chairman of the Board of the Millennium Foundation. “We are now looking forward to further promote MASSIVEGOOD amongst Travel and Tourism professionals and travellers in the United States.” The Millennium Foundation is governed by a Board composed of representatives of participating governments, such as the United Kingdom, France, Norway, Brazil, Chile, Republic of Korea and a representative of the African Union, representatives of NGOs working on malaria, tuberculosis or HIV/AIDS and of communities living with diseases, the Gates Foundation and a representative from the private sector, currently Amadeus.

MASSIVEGOOD, a new and innovative private-public partnership, has succeeded in its first three months in both uniting the global travel industry, and raising almost $200,000 in micro-contributions and matching funds from individuals and corporations towards fighting HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis and improving maternal and child health in developing countries. The MASSIVEGOOD story began this March at the United Nations, when UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and President Bill Clinton inaugurated this global movement. In June, MASSIVEGOOD Spain was launched, with the support of Spanish Foreign Affairs Minister Miguel Ángel Moratinos, and Javier Solana, former EU Commissioner for the Common Foreign and Security Policy. Most recently, MASSIVEGOOD Corporate was launched in Washington, DC this summer, allowing client companies to integrate the MASSIVEGOOD donation solution in their travel management systems.

“Results so far are as forecasted, and the technology works flawlessly,” said Bernard Salome, Managing Director of the Millennium Foundation. “The MASSIVEGOOD donation facility is fully operational and integrated into various selling platforms. As additional partners are added to our movement, we launch in new countries and we spread the word about our easy solution, we will continue to make a massive difference in global health funding.”

“By the very nature and scope of this project, lead time and investment were needed. Donations and market penetration will rise gradually before reaching its full potential,” added Mr. Douste-Blazy. “In view of this, I call on the global travel and tourism industry to support this important project, making it available to their members and customers. Together, we can help the international community achieve the health-related Millennium Development Goals.”
