MASSIVEGOOD, a new and innovative fundraising initiative for global health, has succeeded in its first three months in uniting the global travel industry, raising almost $200,000 in micro-contributions and matching funds from individuals and corporations towards fighting HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis and improving maternal and child health in developing countries.

MASSIVEGOOD allows leisure and business travelers alike to give a “micro-contribution” towards these pressing global health causes every time they book a travel reservation, through a simple donation prompt at the point-of-sale. Already deployed throughout the travel industry in Spain, MASSIVEGOOD’s impressive public-private partnership is growing exponentially around the world.

“We have laid the groundwork for a real global movement,” said Bernard Salome, Managing Director of the Millennium Foundation, the organization behind MASSIVEGOOD. “The MASSIVEGOOD donation technology works flawlessly and integrates into selling platforms. As additional partners are added to our movement, we launch in new countries and we spread the word about our easy solution, we will continue to make a massive difference in global health funding.”

The MASSIVEGOOD story began this March at the United Nations, when UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and President Bill Clinton inaugurated our global movement. In June, MASSIVEGOOD Spain was launched, with the support of Spanish Foreign Affairs Minister Miguel Ángel Moratinos, and Javier Solana, former EU Commissioner for the Common Foreign and Security Policy. Finally, MASSIVEGOOD Corporate was launched in Washington, DC this summer, allowing client companies to integrate the MASSIVEGOOD donation solution in their travel management systems.

Funds raised through MASSIVEGOOD are distributed to UNITAID, an innovative drug-purchasing facility that has already saved millions of lives by lowering the price and increasing the availability of key treatments in developing countries.

MASSIVEGOOD is supported by an impressive line-up of celebrities. In the USA, will.i.am and David Guetta have declared their support along with Spike Lee, who shot a public service announcement with Samuel Jackson, Susan Sarandon and many more. In Spain, the country’s international sporting stars Alberto Contador and the Spanish Football team have lent their voice to our movement, along with a wide range of home-grown Spanish personalities. International star and activist Yvonne Chaka-Chaka is also a fervent supporter - more videos are available on www.massivegood.org.

Behind MASSIVEGOOD is an unprecedented private-public partnership, with travel industry supporters including the World Travel & Tourism Council, Amadeus, Sabre, Travelport, Mondial Assistance, Accor Hotels, American Express Business Travel, Carlson Wagonlit Travel, Voyageurs du Monde, Club Med, Travel Corporation, BCD Travel, Travelocity, Delta Airlines, PhoCusWright, ASTA, and the Global Business Coalition on HIV/Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

In Spain, MASSIVEGOOD is available at virtually all traditional travel agencies that use any of the leading global reservation systems. The leading travel groups have made MASSIVEGOOD available on their websites, including Viajes Barcelo, Atrápalo and Viajes El Corte Inglés. All major Spanish Travel Agency Associations (UNAV, FEAAV, AEDAVE and CEAVYT) and the largest Consortias (Airmet and GEA) have also shown their support.
